Gandhi Jayanti Celebration at GLA Centre Pindaruch

The 152nd birthday of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated at GLA Centre, Pindaruch, yesterday. Gandhiji and his teachings are still more relevant today, speakers said.

About 70 senior school girls and boys participated in a quiz on the life and work of Gandhiji and in a discussion on his relevance today. By securing full marks, the following became joint winners of the quiz: Putul Kumari, Sandhya Kumari, Nisha Kumari and Harsh Kumar Jha. Among speakers on the relevance of Gandhiji, Ayush Kumar Choudhary got the first prize, Mehnur Khanam came second, and Sonali Kumari got the third prize. All participants were given books. Winners were also given cash prizes. Shree Manish Chaudhary, Asst General Manager, Punjab Nation Bank, Darbhanga Region, gave away the prizes.

Sapna Paswan of Pindaruch began the event with “Raghupati Raghava Raja Ram”. She was followed by Shri Deepak Kumar Jha of All India Radio Darbhanga Station, a vocalist of international repute. Jha sang “Vaishanav Jan to Tene Kahiye”. Both Sapna and Deepakji were accompanied on Dholak by Shri Bipin Chandra Chaudhary of Pindaruch.

Shri Amar Nath Prasad, Programme Executive, All India Radio, Darbhanga, was the chief guest. Dr. Sweta of GLA Centre and Shree Pushpendra of AIR Darbhanga gave historical perspectives on Gandhiji. Shree Ravish Kumar Thakur, Lay Secretary of G L A Centre, thanked the guests for joining the celebration in spite of rains and damaged mud road.
